CHILD SUPPORT

Child support is calculated pursuant to section 61.30, Florida Statutes.  Child support is a function of a formula which is comprised of both parents’ incomes.  Although one parent will typically pay child support to the other, both parents are responsible for financially providing support for their children, and this is contemplated in the child support formula.  Child support is also calculated to include the cost of employment-related daycare and medical insurance for the children.  Child support may be significantly impacted based upon the time-sharing schedule of the parents.  Generally, as a parent’s percentage of time with the children (measured in the number of overnights) increases, their support obligation decreases.
